Assistant Cascadia Prescribed Burn Association Coordinator
Location: must live in the greater Leavenworth, WA area and can work often from home.
Start Date: ASAP
Position Type: Part-Time 10-20hrs w/potential additional hours dependent on skillset.
Salary: Starting $25/hr with opportunities for growth and professional development.
Job Summary: The Assistant Cascadia Prescribed Burn Association (PBA) Coordinator will support the planning, coordination, and execution of prescribed fire events and related activities. This role is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient organization of prescribed burns, workshops, training sessions, and community outreach activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, good personal relation skills and has a passion for land management and conservation practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Planning and Coordination:
Assist in scheduling and organizing prescribed burn events, ensuring all logistical aspects are covered and communications lines open.
Coordinate with landowners, volunteers, fire crews, and other stakeholders to ensure participation and proper communication.
Assist in identifying units, securing permits, equipment, and materials needed for prescribed burns.
Support the creation and distribution of event materials, such as flyers, agendas, and safety guidelines.
On-Site Event Support:
Help set up and take down equipment at burn sites.
Assist in managing volunteer check-ins, ensuring everyone is properly briefed and equipped.
Provide logistical support during events, including managing supplies, directing volunteers, and handling unforeseen issues.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate records of burn events, including attendance, incident reports, and outcomes.
Assist in updating and managing event calendars, contact lists, and other relevant databases.
Prepare post-event reports summarizing activities, outcomes, and areas for improvement.
Community Outreach and Education:
Support the planning and execution of educational workshops and training sessions on prescribed burning techniques.
Assist in developing content for newsletters, social media, and other communication channels to promote events and educate the community.
Engage with community members, answering questions and providing information about prescribed burning practices.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required;
Previous experience in event coordination, land management, or fire management is a plus.
Interest in pursuing credentials in NWCG qualifications and Washington Certified Burner Courses.
Skills:
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Proficiency in Google business suite and knowledge of social media platforms.
Knowledge and willingness to learn more about prescribed burning practices, land management, and fire safety is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Capable of lifting and carrying equipment and supplies (up to 50 lbs).
Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
Additional Information:
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on event schedules.
Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel to different burn sites as needed.
