ABOUT US

The association is a community based mutual aid network made up of dedicated community members and partnerships with local contractors, NGOs, fire departments, tribes and state/federal agencies. We come together to for the safe implementation of prescribed fire on private and public lands.

WHAT WE DO

  • EDUCATION / TRAINING

Conventionally, fire education and training has only been available to personnel working for agency and organizations that work in fire suppression services. The Cascadia PBA hosts events and training opportunities that are designed for all ages and experience levels. This much needed avenue increases the overall prescribed fire workforce capacity and knowledge within our community.

  • BURN IMPLEMENTATION

The PBA assists landowners in the pre burn process by helping to identify and prepare burn units, write burn plans and apply for a permit. When it is time to burn the PBA organizes personnel, contractors and provides specialized tools, equipment, and PPE to safely implement the prescribed fire. The diverse range of experience and cooperative community engagement ensures the burn is conducted safely and efficiently.

  • POST BURN

After the burn, we enjoy a bbq together and help with clean-up. In the days that follow the PBA helps monitor the site to assess the burn's impact and support the land's recovery. This essential phase helps guide future land management strategies for ongoing ecosystem health and treatment effectiveness.

PBA MEMBER TESTIMONIALS

  • “I am so grateful to have participated in the PBA’s learn and burn last year, a milestone in our community’s commitment to the lands where we dwell. Working side-by-side with friends and neighbors, we returned cultural fire to a landscape in desperate need. It was a beautiful, fully enjoyable day— I can’t wait to take part in more!”

    -Ivy Spiegel, PBA participant

  • “PBAs help give communities back the lost tool of good fire, which was used abundantly and effectively for thousands of years. Our landscape was shaped by fire and its utilization will not only protect our communities against large destructive wildfires, but also improve forest health and restore ecosystems."

    - Joe Hill, Landowner
